Obituary of Arthur L. Mathis

Funeral services have been scheduled for Arthur L. "Art" Mathis, 63, of Bastrop for 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12,2004 at First Baptist Church in Bastrop with the Rev. Jim Ingram and Dr. L.H. McCollough officiating. Mr. Mathis a retired manager at the Morehouse Parish CO-OP passed away August 10,2004 at Morehouse General Hospital. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Linda B. Mathis; two daughters, Jennifer Mathis Spann and husband Tracy of Prairieville, La., Kara Mathis Ward of Baton Rouge, La.; sister, Peggy Emfinger of Winnsboro, La.; brother, Bo Laird of Farmerville, La.and a granddaughter, Karli Mathis Spann of Pairieville, La. He is preceded in death by wife, Carlene Sisson Mathis; parents, Arthur E. and Neva Mathis and a brother, Johnny Mathis. Mr. Mathis was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop and served his country proudly as a U.S. Army veteran. Serving as pallbearers are: Bill Goodnight, Raymond Westbrook, Jerry Ball, Charles Moore, Ron Drummond and Peyton Spear. Visitation will be held at Golden Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.
