Obituary of George E. Young

Funeral services for Mr. George E. Young, age 91, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Young, a resident of the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014. Mr. Young was a United States Army Veteran having served in World War II as a part of the 459th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He participated in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Mr. Young was a decorated war veteran having earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with five bronze stars, the Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. He also worked and retired from Brown and Root after 42 years of service, part of which was spent in construction of the Alaskan pipeline. He was a loving father and grandfather, loved the Lord, fishing, and playing "42" dominoes. Mr. Young is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Young; parents, Ben Young and Callie Young Wilkerson sisters, Beatrice Woodward, Mildred Blinke, Mable Lacy, Bonita Marshall, Mary Gabriel, and Dorothy Lee. Mr. Young is survived by his son, George Young, Jr. and wife Jackie of Swartz; step children, Avis Whiddon of Houston, TX, Sandra Hewitt of Houston, TX, Mary Forsythes and husband Don of Pearland, TX, Kim Homes of Houston, TX, Roy Zacharias of Houston, TX, Joe Zacharias of Houston, TX, Johnny Zacharias of Houston, TX, and Judy Pope of Greenfield, IN; brother, Kenneth Wilkerson and wife Shirley of San Augustine, TX; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and fifteen nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Young, Drew Pederson, Josh Pederson, Scott Young, Joel Pederson, Daniel Young, A. J. Young, Carson Young, John Thomas Young. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
