Obituary of James W. Humphrey, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. James W. Humphrey, Sr. are scheduled for 2 P.M. Monday, May 4, 2015, at Victory Tabernacle Church with Rev. Willie Lambert, Rev. Kevin Sanders and J.J. Holyfield officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. service time Monday at the church. Mr. Humphrey, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at the age of 69. He was a retired teacher of the Louisiana Training Institute for Boys and was in the music ministry for 40 years. Mr. Humphrey loved his family and singing praises to the Lord. He was known to be a very giving person and a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Johnson Humphrey; children, Jamie R. Humphrey, Anna L. Humphrey, Margaret E. Humphrey, James W. Humphrey, Jr. & wife Holly, Jason A. Humphrey & wife Nancy; grandchildren, Haley Humphrey, Brayden Humphrey, Emery Humphrey; sister, Marie Bassett of Mitchellville, MD, and numerous cousins and friends Mr. Humphrey is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie & Annie Humphrey; mother & father-in-law, Rev. A.A. & Zuma Johnson; brother & sister-in-law, Jack & Pete Grant; sister, Grace Martyniuk. Serving as pallbearers will be Coleman Stover, Brandon Semmes, Jeremy Redding, J.J. Holyfield, Tim Eubanks, Gerald Eubanks, J.E. Wood and Phil Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Olin Haynes, D.R. Mayo, Will Lambert, Tommy Lambert, Jules Lambert, Larry Ainsworth and Charles Farrar. Special thanks to the staff of Christus St. Josephs Home, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Cornerstone Hospital and Dr. Ralph Asbury.
