Funeral services for John Roland Baker, age 76, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Bonita Road Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Townsend and Rev. Jimmie Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Bonita Road Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Baker ,a resident of Bastrop, died Tuesday , October 19, 2004 at Morehouse General Hospital. He retired after 43 years from International Paper Compay as a mill wright, was a member of Bonita Road Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon since 1964. He also served his country as a veteran of the War of Occupation in Germany with the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joye Pardue Baker; daughter, Charlotte Baker Johnson and husband Ronald of Bastrop, LA ; son, Mike Baker and wife Alice of Bastrop, LA ; brother, A.M. Baker of Bastrop, LA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Baker Bridges and husband Jesse of San Antonio, TX , Andy Johnson and wife Amber of Bastrop, LA, Jonathan Baker of Mary Esther, FL, Jessica Baker Cote and husband Eric of Bastrop, LA, Aaron Johnson of Bastrop, LA; two great grandchildren, Mary Beth Johnson of Bastrop, LA, Morgan Bridges of San Antonio, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Baker is preceded in death by his parents, J.A. and Helen Martin Baker and sister, Clara Alice Baker Phelps. Serving as pallbearers will be Deacons of Bonita Road Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
