Obituary of Elva P. Humphreys

Funeral services for Mrs. Elva P. Humphreys, age 97, are scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bastrop, LA with Bro. Ronnie Sanders officiating. Interment will be held in the Alabama Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Choudrant, LA. Visitation will be held from 1 PM until 2 PM service time Tuesday at the church. Mrs. Humphreys was a retired Superintendant of the Morehouse Parish School System. She also served on the Library Board. She is survived by her sister, Betty Camp Tynes; nieces, Ann Patterson and husband Wayne, Ruby Cook, Deb Baldwin and husband Bob; nephews, Richard Penuell and wife Jean, Ralph Penuell III and wife Ann, Bill Penuell and wife Carla, John Camp and wife Sherry, Jeff Camp and wife Debra, Ed Chandler and wife Lynette, Steve Chandler and wife Juanita and numerous great nieces, great nephews and “adopted” children. Mrs. Humphreys is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Steadman Penuell, Sr., Ruby Hinton Penuell, and Bessie Brown Penuell; husbands, Roy McCann and Leland Humphreys; siblings, Olline Cook, Jim Penuell, Ralph Penuell, Jr., Martha Brown Chandler and nephew, Jackie Camp. Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Glass, Daniel Holley, David Patterson, Wayne Patterson, Justin West and Wesley Yeldell . Honorary pallbearers will be O.L. Harper, Ben Johns, Jimmy Perry, and Lavelle Vining. The family would like to express a heartfelt “Thank you” to Faye Barnes, Margaret Whatley, Bonnie Manning, the staffs of Dr. Mike Smith, Lagniappe Healthcare, First Presbyterian Church of Bastrop and Alabama Presbyterian Church.
