Obituary of Nellie Head Simmons

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Head Simmons, age 76, will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 28, 2016 at Sikes Baptist Church, Sikes, LA, visitation will be held from 9 AM until service time, with Brother Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Simmons, a resident of Bastrop, LA and a retired Librarian with Morehouse Parish schools and Prairie View Academy, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter, Penny Simmons of Bastrop, LA; sons, Craig Simmons and wife Tracie of Bossier City, LA, Phillip Simmons and wife Laurie of Haughton, LA, Jason Simmons and wife Sabrina of Bastrop, LA; brother, Doug Head of Sikes, LA; eleven grandchildren, Sadie Simmons, Emily Simmons, Sierra Simmons, Katelyn Balsamo, Hannah Simmons, Mason Simmons, Sam Simmons, Caraline Simmons, Katie Simmons, Sawyer Simmons, and Jaydon Simmons; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by her parents, W.O. and Ida Head; husband, William James Simmons; and son James Randall Simmons. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, and also enjoyed music and reading. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Smith, Kevin McDaniel, Paul Ezell, Ray Ezell, Wendell Gibson, and Steve Vickers. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 8 PM Sunday at Golden Funeral Home.
