Spanky Eugene Byrum, 86, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022, in Bastrop, Louisiana. Spanky was born in Ada, Oklahoma on December 25, 1935. He was the only son of Tillman H. Byrum and Clista Byrum. Spanky was raised in Odessa, Texas and attended highschool at Peacock Military Academy in San Angelo, Texas. Spanky met Jo Barbee Bevers in Odessa, TX and they married in 1956. They had 3 children, Tillman, Lisa and Patti. Spanky’s career in the oil industry moved the family to Belle Chasse, Louisiana in 1966. In 1975, his career took them to Anchorage, Alaska; Vernal, Utah; and back to Odessa, Texas. In 1978, Spanky and Jo returned to Belle Chasse where they lived until retirement. After retiring, they moved to Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Spanky was a Past Master of Ideal Masonic Lodge #367 in Amite, Louisiana and an Endowed member of the Tolerance Masonic Lodge #1165 in Beaumont, Texas. Spanky was a member of Rachel Jackson Chapter #241 OES in Ponchatoula, Louisiana and Wisteria Chapter #823 OES in Beaumont, Texas. Spanky was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman H. Byrum and Clista Byrum Roberts, wife Jo Byrum, grandson Spanky T. Byrum, and great grandson Ethan Cooper. Spanky is survived by his son, Tillman E. Byrum, wife Donna, of Gretna, Louisiana; daughter, Lisa Byrum Jardine, husband Bob, of Warren, Texas, and daughter, Patti Byrum Wigstrom, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. A memorial service will be held at the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge #288, 286 East Pine Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana on February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. The family is requesting no flowers, but donations can be made to Ideal Masonic Lodge # 367, 12108 Coles Creek Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana 70403.
