I’ve always called James Jim. We first met in Tennessee while we were attending college. Then we both moved to Oregon. 4 years later I moved back to Texas. And so did Jim. We spent times together fishing rafting camping together! When we visited each others home we spent a lot of time also playing a dominoes game called 42! I have many good memories of our times together. A good friend! Always cheerful and happy! Jim will be missed by all who knew him. Until we meet again. Steve Davalos

Life-long friends are rare.
James Butler and I met at church and became friends when I was around 14-15 years old. His family moved to Oregon shortly after we became friends, but we remained close over the years. James taught me how to perform magic and gave me a footlocker of props and effects to get me started. this photo is from 1997 (I think) where we met accidentally at a magic convention, not knowing the other was attending.
James was always kind, considerate of others, and rock-steady in temperament.
We talked each other through struggles of life and celebrated joys together, trying out new magic effects on each other when we got together.
Whenever we were together...which wasn't often enough in recent years...we made the most of our time and didn't think of taking pics. This photo is circa 1997: we both showed up at the same magic convention not knowing the other was attending. We both chose "interesting" ties.
Thank you for being a true friend, James. I miss you and I'll see you on the other side.

Robert, Ray and I are so sorry about the loss of your dad. Although we only had the pleasure of meeting him at Connor’s wedding his Christian character was evident. After the wedding we talked about what a nice man he was and that we hoped we would see him again. We also talked about how the love and admiration he had for you was so obvious. He looked at you with such pride. What a blessing that you two shared such a great relationship.
I know you will miss him terribly but how great to know that you will see him again for all eternity. You know that we are here for you anytime you need us. We love you and Shannon and are so thankful that she is able to be by your side during this sad time. Prayers will continue for you both.

Oh LuAnn I am SO sorry! I had no idea and was shocked to see your Facebook post this morning. James was one of the most sincere, honest and caring people I have ever known. When I think of James I see that sweet, slow smile of his. This breaks my heart along with yours, I'm sure. Praise God we know he is celebrating today in his room in God's mansion!
I love you!

James was one of my best friends. I met James and Luann in 2011 at The Compassionate Friends meeting, when James lost his daughter, Allison in a car wreck. From that meeting until now when James took his last breath, we worked together over these years in helping bereaved parents get better. James we love you and will always miss you. Luann, we love you and will be praying for you and your family.

If you looked up the word neighbor in the dictionary, Mr James’ picture would be there. From fixing bicycles for our girls to keeping the generator going for 6 days during Hurricane Laura and 3 days during the aftermath of the tornado, ( and of course he would not let us pay for the gas or oil) Mr James was always there for our family. During those stressful and chaotic times, he would be outside at dawn ready to move logs and split firewood (we cannot even begin to count the firewood) or help move furniture out of the damaged rooms, pitching in with whatever needed to be done. Sometimes in his suspenders which he loved. Mr James would fire up the grill or the Blackstone so we could have a good meal while the electricity was out. When my dad started having his health issues, Mr James would make sure we had things taken care of such as covering the outside faucets if it was going to freeze and spraying our weeds when he sprayed his at his house. Mr James would always made sure we were good especially my dad. More than a neighbor, he is family and we are blessed to have known him. We will miss him greatly
