James and I worked together on the billing staff at CenturyTel for many years. I considered him a good friend. When he worked in Marion he would periodically come to Monroe and we would meet for lunch. We took turns as to who picked up the check. He was a fine man and an enthusiastic golfer. After his retirement we would still meet for lunch though not as frequent as before. I was recently asking a coworker who lives in Bastrop if they heard any news about James. Sad to hear of his passing. I would like to offer my condolences to his family. Even though James had no children of his own, I know he loved his nieces and nephews and seem to recall he would buy them savings bonds for their birthdays. I'm sure they thought them an odd gift at the time but I'm also sure they saw the wisdom of his choice once they cashed them in....Rest in peace, James.

I Always Loved Uncle James growing up Up but He was Older Than Us Kids so He was More of an Uncle. After we moved Back to Bastrop and I got Older we Ran together Every Now and Then and it was as FRIENDS ! The Time that Comes To Mind First and Foremost was Because We Had a Blast. I wasn’t into Country Music All That Much and Actually Had Not Heard Of Alabama Before but He Talked Me Into Going and There Just Happened To Be About Half a Dozen or More Gals that were All Friends Of Mine and We All Got Together And Had a Party at the Concert. I Do Believe That Was Either The First Time or Just Happened To Be The TIME THAT I REMEMBER HIM REALLY LETTING GO AND HAVING A BLAST !
