Chris, a resident of Bastrop, LA passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the age of fifty-three. He was born November 3, 1971 in Bastrop, LA. Chris started out in cable tv in 1990 where he remained a dedicated employee for the last thirty-four years. He was a devout Christian and an active servant at New Friendship Baptist Church.
Our family has lost our rock, the one that always had an open mind, open arms, and gentle hands, ready to help and be there for everybody. He married Lynda Reynolds, his high school sweetheart, in 1990 and for almost thirty-five years he made her his pride. In 1991 they added their daughter, Catelyn, and in 1994 came their son, Caleb. Lynda never had to question where her husband stood. He was steadfast in his love and concern for family, church family, and co-workers. Chris and Lynda have a bond that many would envy. They were “Let me talk to Lynda” or “Let me see what Chris says” before everything. Catelyn has lost her daddy, the first man she ever loved, the gentle giant that would move mountains for her as he often did. His son-in-law, Dennis has lost a man to manner his fathership after, a mentor, and a friend. Caleb has lost the daddy, that was always in his corner. Always teaching, helping, and understanding. Caleb learned much from his dad. He learned his love of nature, his talent for hunting and fishing, compassion and leadership from him. Chris can never be replaced for Caleb and Caleb won’t seek to replace him but to honor him. When Caleb married Shelbye, she became a second daughter to Chris and she only had to speak it and Chris would try to make it happen for her. Chris and Lynda’s three precious granddaughters, Emerson, Avalyn, and Prairie-Anne have lost their Pepaw. The lap they could crawl up in and “get a yes” when Mom and Dad had said no. He was all about their wants and needs. He loved them bigger than the sky. They knew it and they loved him right back. Look up grand girls, Pepaw is that biggest star in your sky now. And, to complete Chris’ world, along came his grandson, Elijah Wayne-Allen. Pepaw had big plans for you, precious boy. You will be taught of your Pepaw, the man you may not remember but will certainly revere.
All the others of Chris’ family will miss his bear hugs, his robust laugh, his wit, and his genuine love for us. Friends and coworkers, church friends will no doubt feel the gap left by Chris’ parting. He is preceded in death by many he cherished, including his father, Richard Burden; father-in-law, Steve Long; father-in-law, Gary Freeman; and grandparents, Charlene Emanuel, and Denton and Peggy Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Parrott; daughter, Catelyn Hicks (Dennis), and their children, Avalyn and Elijah; Caleb Parrott (Shelbye), and their children, Emerson and Prairie-Anne; his mother, Carol Burden; mother-in-law, Frances Freeman; brothers, Brian Burden (Andrea), Michael Parrott (Jessica), and J.R. Stroede; sister-in-law, Tina Nobles (Brian); and many nieces and nephews.
Chris had a heart for children and for the children’s church and their activities at New Friendship Baptist Church. He wanted his grandchildren and their church friends to have the best teaching and nurturing possible. In lieu of floral donations, the family requests that you consider giving to New Friendship Baptist Church, tagged “Children’s Ministry” in Chris’s honor. Donations can be mailed to 6329 Old Monroe Rd. Bastrop, LA 71220.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chip Dunlap, Kerry Gaskin, Casey Tobey, Luke Hopper, Paul Kitchens and Bart Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Hogan, Matt Scoggins, Justin Rallinson, Jody Philley, Borden Townsend, Eric Hightower and Jim Ellingburg.
