Funeral services for Shirley Benson are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Post officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, prior to the service, beginning at 1 PM.
Mrs. Benson, a resident of Mer Rouge, LA, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025, at the age of eighty-seven. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Benson was known for being a pet lover and an all around happy person, always wearing a smile on her face (especially when she spotted an animal). She will be missed dearly.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her daughters, Sherry Avitabile of Mer Rouge, LA, Ellen McCain, and husband Harold, of Pearl River, LA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her very special and beloved pet, Rowdy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mert and Audette Smith; husband, Paul Benson; and brothers, Lloyd Ray Smith and Harold E. Smith;
Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Benson’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Natili Floyd for her special care and devotion to her great-grandmother for the last few years.
