Funeral services for Betty Jean Rea Scoggins are scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana, with Reverend Clelie Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Bartholomew Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Scoggins, a member of Bartholomew Methodist Church for over seventy years, passed away at her home, surrounded by her daughters, April 27, 2025, at the age of ninety-three. In her early years, she was a seamstress for her five girls, an excellent cook, and an avid gardener. She was a secretary at The Carpenters Local Union, a retired associate at Walmart, and a homemaker. Mrs. Scoggins was a devout Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who loved her Lord and family fiercely. She loved spending time with her family and was a devoted prayer warrior. In her later years, she enjoyed playing card games with her great-grandchildren, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. Her funny one-liners would make anyone laugh. She kept her grace and humor until the end. Mrs. Scoggins is survived by her sister, Alice Abraugh Oden; her brother, John E. “Johnny” Rea; daughters, Carolyn Bradford and husband Keith, Rhonda Scoggins, Anne Lane and husband Bubba, Jan Gray and husband Marvin, and Staci Scoggins; grandchildren, Crystal Childress, Amanda Metz and husband Shawn, Malcolm Eppinette and wife Lisa, Kelli Marceaux and husband Luther, Luke Childress and wife Kelsey, Matt Scoggins and wife Jessica, Jesi Johnson, Sydney Rea Murray, Randy Costenbader and husband Matt, Jody Mayo and husband Shea, Lee Lane and wife Heather, and Frank Lane; great-grandchildren, Adam, Dylan, Julian, Liam, Izzey, Jonah, Jerry, Kayla, Hannah, Clay, Adley, Slade, Hunter, Maggie, Grace, Jack, Liam, Jensen, Sadie, Manuel, Mackenzie, Amy, and Little Lee; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Helen Rea; husband, Eldred H. Scoggins; sister, Hazel Rea White; brothers, George Max Rea, James “Jimmy” Rea, Morris Rea, and Joe Rea; grandson, Josh Johnson; and sons-in-law, Jerry Metz and Harris Goldenberg. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Scoggins’ great-grandsons: Dylan Woodcom, Julian Woodcom, Liam Woodcom, Adam Bingham, Jerry Eppinette, and Jonah Sharpe. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dennis Kelly and Sam Little. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their caring service and dedications. A special thanks to Deva for her extraordinary love and compassion.
