Obituary of Rev. Philip Michael Barnes

Funeral services for Rev. Philip Michael Barnes are scheduled for 10 AM Friday, August 8, 2025 at North Bastrop Church of God with Rev. Brandon Sistrunk, Rev. Greg Marrow, Rev. Peter Barnes, and Rev. Andrew Sistrunk officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruston, LA under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Goldens. Rev. Barnes passed away Friday, August 1, 2025 at the age of eighty-one. He was a minister, and Bishop with the Church of God. Rev. Barnes attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he played the piano and led worship. He was an excellent pianist and singer, he loved Jesus and pastored many churches throughout many states leading many people to the Lord. Rev. Barnes was also a retired Insurance agent with Security Industrial Insurance Company. He loved his family and was very proud of them, but he lived for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Kristie B. Sistrunk and husband, DeWayne of Bastrop, LA, Jennifer B. Watson of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Martha McMasters of Denham Springs, LA; brothers, Greg Barnes and wife, Cheryl of Austin, TX, Rev. Paul Barnes and wife, Debbie of Lufkin, TX, Rev. Peter Barnes and wife, Gina of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Rev. Brandon Sistrunk and wife, Ashley, Rev. Andrew Sistrunk and wife, Laura, Mckenna Watson; great grandchildren, Riley Sistrunk, Landon Sistrunk, Macie Sistrunk, Nora Sistrunk, Kayden Gilbert, Kamren Sistrunk, Kolby Sistrunk, Kingston Sistrunk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family. Rev. Barnes is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Barnes; parents, Lee and Minnie Barnes; and brother, Leroy Barnes. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Kayden Gilbert, Mark Sistrunk, Adam Sistrunk, Greg Marrow, Bill Tharpe and Ricky Parrott. Mr. Richard Barnes will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
