Obituary of John E. Lang

Funeral services for Mr. John E. Lang “Pops” of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 pm Thursday, September 4, 2025 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. John O’Leary and Dr. Bruce Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinegrove South Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1pm-2pm Thursday at Golden’s. Mr. Lang passed away Friday, August 29, 2025 at the age of 85. He retired from International Paper Company with 38 years of employment in the accounting and maintenance departments. He also served his country in the US Army. He was a faithful member of Memorial Methodist Church in Bastrop, LA where he served in many facets, including head of the Administrative Board on the Trustee committee and Financial Secretary. Every Sunday he greeted members and guest alike with a welcoming smile. John was a mechanic at heart and loved working on just about anything. He spent many years repairing automotive equipment for family and friends. He was a loving dad, grandfather and friend who had a quick wit and always found joy in joking with others. John truly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and dear friends. Survivors include his son, Lamar Lang and wife Lisa of Bastrop, LA; grandson, Ashton Lang of London, England; brother, Philip Lang and wife Margaret of Winnfield, LA; Sister-in-law, Dallene Perkins of Zachary, LA; nephews, Brad Perkins, Dale Lang, and David Lang. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Johnnie Faye McElroy Lang; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Lang; parents, Herman and Opal Lang and a brother, David D. Lang. Serving as pallbearers will be Ashton Lang, Brad Perkins, Dale Lang, David Lang, Billy Ellingburg, Jerry Wolfe, William Patrick, and Richard Book. Honorary pallbearer will be John Turner.
