Obituary of Joseph Robert Overturf

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Joseph Robert Overturf are scheduled for 2 PM, Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Highway 5 N, Alexander, AR 72002. Officiants will be Dr. Sam Roberts and Bro. Andrew Skinner. Funeral services are under the direction of Golden Funeral Home, of Bastrop, LA. Mr. Overturf, a resident of West Monroe, LA, and formerly of Stuttgart, AR, was born November 28, 1929, and celebrated his entrance into Heaven on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of ninety-five. He was a retiree of Riceland Foods in Stuttgart, AR, where he served as an accountant. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, having served as a deacon and church treasurer at Graham Heights Baptist Church in Memphis, TN, and First Baptist Church, Stuttgart, AR. He was an avid Arkansas Razorback and Stuttgart Ricebirds fan. He continued to attend and support the Ricebirds long after his sons no longer played. His work ethic was unsurpassed as he worked at least part-time until he was eighty-seven years old. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. Apart from his love for Jesus Christ, his family was at the center of his life. He valued them above all and was there to encourage and support them throughout his life. Mr. Overturf is survived his sons, David Overturf, and wife Kathy, Gary Overturf, and wife Karen, and Rick Overturf, and wife Lynell; grandchildren, Sarah Leech, and husband Charles, Matt Overturf, and wife Courtney, Lindsay Overturf, and wife Shayla, Taylor Overturf, and wife Jennifer, Steven Overturf, Erin Norris, Will Norris, and wife Clesi; great-grandchildren, Landon, Andi Leigh, Tyler, Silas, Jonathan, Gracyn, Riley Grace, Luke, Brooks, and Parker, sister, Lorene Means; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy-six years, Melba Jean Overturf; parents, Charlie Overturf and Leona Overturf Gordon; and brother, Leonard Overturf. Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Overturf, Taylor Overturf, Steven Overturf, Charles Leech, Landon Leech and Will Norris. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2115 S Prairie St., Stuttgart, AR 72160; Stuttgart Ricebirds Booster Club, in care of Stuttgart High School, 401-A W. 22nd Stuttgart, AR 72160; or the charity of your choice.
