Please share a memory of Sybil "Bo" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sybil “Bo” Irene Scoggins Stevenson, 89, of Bastrop, Louisiana, passed from this life on September 30, 2025 surrounded by family. Born October 6, 1935, in Galion, Louisiana, Sybil was the daughter of Louis C. Scoggins and Sadie Adcock Scoggins. She graduated Bastrop High in 1954. After studying nursing for one year at Northwest Louisiana University, she married her high school beau and love of her life, LeRoy A. Stevenson. Sybil worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Boone-Norris Insurance Agency. She was defined by her faith, devotion to family, commitment to her community, and a spirit that was equal parts strength, wit, and heart. She had the rare ability to say what everyone else was thinking—and she used that gift freely and without apology. Her candor, often delivered with a sharp sense of humor, was one of her most defining and endearing traits—honesty doled out as a wrapper for love. Sybil had an uncanny ability to coax life from anything that could hold dirt. Her passions included cooking, sewing, traveling, and quietly showing up for people in ways that mattered most. Deeply involved in her community, she volunteered with the Louisiana Cotton Festival and at Morehouse General Hospital. She served as secretary for the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and was the long-time treasurer at Bastrop First Church of God. She also gave her time and heart to caring for several elderly individuals in their final seasons of life.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; her brothers Aubrey, Eldred, Billy, and Jack Scoggins; a sister Margaret Nolan; and a grandson Randall Stevenson.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Randall Stevenson (Claire) of Leawood, Kansas, and Donya Riles (Ross) of Bastrop, Louisiana; her grandchildren: Heith Anderson, Jerred Anderson, Amelia Yeldell, Christian Stevenson, and Carmen Stevenson; and her great-grandchildren: Presley, Peyton, Baylor, Ellis, Briar, Barrett, Claiborne, and Mateo. She is also survived by her sisters Hazel Lambert, Nancy Sivils, and Sadie Strahan, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2PM Friday, October 3, 2025 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana, with Rev. Dalyn Helbling officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 5 PM - 7 PM at Golden’s.
Serving as pallbearers will be Heith Anderson, Jerred Anderson, Christian Stevenson, Logan Hendrickson, Bubba Lane, and Whit Yeldell.
Sybil Stevenson leaves behind a legacy of fierce love, deep faith, humor, service to others, and honesty. The world is better because she was a part of it.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
