Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Uriah Elkins are scheduled for 11 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Mt. Union Baptist Church, with Bro. Marty Black and Bro. Marcell McGee officiating. Visitation with the family will precede the service, beginning at 10 AM. A private interment will take place in the Mt. Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Elkins was born December 9, 1933, and entered into the joy of the Lord on Thursday, November 20, at the age of ninety-one. Mr. Elkins was a life long resident of the Mt. Union Community where he poured his life into his family, his vocation as a farmer, and his service to his Savior at Mt. Union Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. In his younger years, he played professional baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers organization, from 1952-1956. When he was asked about signing with this team, his response was, “let me ask my mamma.” Following this time, his career spanned time working for the US Forestry Department. In 1960, he began working in the dairy industry, where he operated his dairy farm until 1988. He also served the Union Parish School Board for fourteen years. While his working career spanned many years, with a multitude of accomplishments, but his greatest source of joy was his family. He loved them above and beyond and was so proud of each one. The only love greater in life was the love that he had for the Lord Jesus Christ. He is preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years, Elizabeth “Bokie” Elkins; parents, Carl and Faye Elkins; brothers Carl Elkins, Jr., and Dale Elkins; and grand-daughter, Paige Elkins. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carol Ann Chrisman and husband, David; sons, Bobby Stephen Elkins and wife, Melanie, and Richard Dale Elkins and wife, Robin; siblings, Ruby Kay Misenheimer, Hez Elkins, and wife Evelyn, and Tom Elkins, and wife Pat; six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Bryan Elkins, Colby Rushing, Zachary Chrisman, Jayce Cranford, Caleb Elkins, Cody Elkins, Stan Elkins, Alan Misenheimer, Daniel Elkins, and Mike Holley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Union Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
