FAITHFUL is one of the words I would use to describe Sister Omah. She loved her daughters and family, her church family and her friends. I had the privilege of praying with her on a weekly basis for a while and she would call those names out to God in prayer asking for his mercy and love extended to them as it had been to her. I knew if at anytime I needed anything taken to God on my behalf she was the one to call.
CARING AND KIND are words that also are appropriate to use when the name Omah Higgins is brought up. In 1993 when I lost my father, she along with her friend, Lucille Jones, came with a car load of food and not only that but stayed and served the family the entire second portion, 12pm-6pm, of the day. I saw her make coffee pot after coffee pot taking it to each family member listening to them as each of them poured out our hearts in pain. And then in 2009, when our Mother went home again, Sister Omah and Sister Jones were there as Mother went into surgery. They were there by the side of the family while we waited to hear news from the surgeon about Mom. Thankfully she was there when Mom never made it home to once again serving and lovingly offer her talents to the hurting and grieving.
Lastly I would use DETERMINED to describe my sister, my friend, Omah Higgins. No matter what any given situation might LOOK LIKE, it didn’t discourage her one bit. Daily, she would just take her needs as well as the needs of others to The Master. She lived as she encouraged others to live. A life given to staying focused on the reward at the end of this journey through life was her goal. To hear those words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord.” I will miss my friend very much and my life was richer for having had her influence in my life. Until we meet again my friend, rest!
