Obituary of Jennisteen "Jennie" Washam

Funeral services for Jennisteen “Jennie” Washam are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, April 2, 2026, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Zachary Cemetery, Jones, LA. The family will receive friends Thursday, prior to the service, beginning at 12 noon. Mrs. Washam, a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, at the age of ninety-eight. She was loyal to Oak Hill Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for fifty years, and even directed and taught preschool. Mrs. Washam retried as the Director at Van Avenue Assembly of God Child Care, prior to that, was the bookkeeper for West Bros until she and her husband, Ben, adopted Mrs. Bennie. Mrs. Washam is survived by her daughter, Bennie Jean Mejias and husband John, Jr.; special niece, Ida Faye Phillips; siblings, Avis Harrelson, Robert Crawley, and A.B. Crawley; grandchildren, Tracie Krakos and husband Brian, Charles Jordan and wife Amelia, Stephanie Shepherd and husband Andy; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Minner and wife Maggie, Kate Minner, Jacob Minner, Maryn Reynoso, Cailin Jordan, Eva Reynoso, Layla Reynoso, Mariah Reynoso, Roby Shepherd, and Finley Shepherd. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben B. Washam; special niece, Doris Sisson; and sisters, Earline Jackson, Perrene Vail, Sue Breazel, and Elizabeth Sharp. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Harrelson, Glen Jackson, Andy Shepherd, and Brian Krakos.
