Terrell Wayne Hawkins
March 21, 1958 – March 31, 2026
Terrell “Papa T” Wayne Hawkins, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Shreveport on March 31, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia, surrounded by his loved ones.
Terrell was born on March 21, 1958, to Beatrice and Ernest Hawkins, who preceded him in death, along with his beloved daughter, Tara Hawkins Conley.
He grew up on his family’s ninety acres in Morehouse Parish, where he developed a lifelong passion for raising cattle, something he shared with his father and passed down his wisdom to others.
A man of deep faith, strong work ethic, and many talents, Terrell spent his life providing for his family enjoying a career in agriculture, farming, and log trucking. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Masonic community, serving as a Past Master of the Mt. Gerizim Masonic Lodge #54 and a 32nd degree Mason. Also, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Barack Shrine Temple and York Rite Bodies of Monroe.
Terrell had a deep love for life’s simple joys and being outdoors. He enjoyed water skiing, sporting clays, fishing for perch, hunting, and traveling. As a young man, he was a member of several bands and even had the honor of playing on the Louisiana Hayride. But his greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends while playing the piano. Music was truly his first love.
He was a former member of First Baptist Church Bastrop, where he was an ordained deacon, and a current member of Salem Baptist Church in Stonewall.
Terrell is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sara Solomon Hawkins; his daughter, Tricia Hawkins Jowell, and her husband, Chris; his cherished grandchildren, Reed Solomon Conley, Jackson Rex Jowell, Walker Rex Jowell, and Sadie Maye Jowell; and his brother-in-law Daniel Solomon and his sister-in-law, Pat Carlisle, along with her children and grandchildren in east Texas, all of whom he loved dearly.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, music, and most of all faith that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this time.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at First Bastrop Church Bastrop in the Family Life Center. Visitation starts at 11 a.m. Meal and memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Volunteers of America North Louisiana.
