Some men live ordinary lives, but Justin lived a life defined by courage, strength, and a fight that inspired everyone who witnessed it. After battling brain cancer since October of 2014 with a determination that never wavered, Robert Justin Rallinson—known and loved by most as Justin or “Tubby”—has finally laid down his battle and entered into eternal rest.
Justin was born on March 30, 1981, and from an early age he carried the values that would guide his life: faith, family, honesty, and hard work. His faith in the Lord was central to his life and helped him through both the joyful moments and the most difficult seasons. One verse he appreciated was from Acts 10:13, which says, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” Justin appreciated the straightforward honesty of that scripture—simple, strong, and direct, much like the way he lived his life.
Justin was known as a tough man with a big heart. Taking care of his family and friends was always his priority. If someone needed help fixing something, building something, or simply needed someone to stand beside them, Justin was the kind of man who showed up without hesitation. He believed in standing on truth and trust, and those who knew him knew that his word meant something.
Hard work was simply part of who Justin was. He began working at the concrete plant owned by his father, where he learned early the value of dedication and honest labor. Later he earned his building contractor’s license and worked alongside his dad building homes, something he took great pride in. He enjoyed working with his hands and knowing that what he built would stand for years to come. Over time he also worked doing refractory work in mills, a demanding job suited for someone with his toughness and determination. Eventually Justin began working at Graphic Packaging, where he worked faithfully until his health made it too difficult to continue.
When Justin wasn’t working, he loved being outdoors. Hunting was one of his greatest passions, especially trips to Illinois, where the quiet woods, early mornings, and time spent with friends and family brought him great joy. Some of his most treasured memories were made on those hunting trips.
Justin also had a deep love for his dogs. He especially loved Diesel, even though at first he insisted he didn’t want him. As many people know, that didn’t last long, and Diesel quickly found his way into Justin’s heart. Justin also enjoyed coon hunting with his dog Smoke, spending nights doing something that brought him peace and happiness.
Justin will also always be remembered by the nickname “Tubby,” a name given to him by friends when he was younger. The nickname came from his well-known love for food and the fact that he was always welcome at the dinner tables of many of his friends’ parents’ homes. Justin had a way of making himself part of the family wherever he went, and plenty of parents fed him like one of their own. What started as a playful nickname stuck with him throughout life, and those who knew him best knew it represented someone who loved good food, good company, and being surrounded by people he cared about.
Above all else, Justin loved his wife and children with his whole heart. His family was the center of his world and the reason he continued to fight so hard through the most difficult years of his illness. Even during the hardest moments, Justin continued to show strength, humor, and the kind of perseverance that inspired everyone around him.
Justin shared a deep and devoted love with his wife, Rhonda, whom he met on October 28, 2008, and married on October 16, 2010. From the very beginning, their bond was built on loyalty, faith, and standing beside one another through every season of life. When Justin was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2014, Rhonda remained faithfully by his side through every step of the journey. For more than a decade she cared for him with unwavering love and devotion, walking with him through treatments, difficult days, and ultimately hospice care. Their marriage was not only one of love, but of true commitment—standing together in both the joys of life and the hardest battles. Rhonda’s dedication to Justin was a reflection of the deep love they shared, a love that carried them from the day they met all the way through his final moments.
Justin was also known for his sense of humor. He could be stubborn, quick-witted, and known to tease the people he loved most, but that was simply part of what made him Tubby. His laughter, stories, and the way he could make people smile will never be forgotten.
Justin is preceded in death by his father, Robert L. “Blue” Rallinson; father-in-law, Steve Wayne Foster; uncle, Sam Rallinson; and aunts, Phyllis Rallinson and Debbie Waid.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Nugent, Jeremy Hogan, Jared DeBlieux, Joe McCarver, Casey Hall, Bubba Stephenson, Trey Eldridge, and Tripp Chorette. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Cheek, Carter Marsh, Cody Hogan, and Caleb Parrott.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to Premier Hospice, Dustin McGowen, Cindy Burlew, Andria Brandon, Matt Lyon, and Bro. Dennis Hackler, for their loving and thoughtful care of Justin.
Justin leaves behind a legacy of faith, honesty, strength, and unwavering love for his family. The lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Though his family’s hearts are heavy with loss, they take comfort in knowing Justin is now at peace and no longer fighting the battle he carried for so long. The man who spent his life taking care of others can finally rest.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, his strength, his example, and the love he gave will remain with us forever.
Justin believed deeply in his faith and the promise of salvation. If Justin could leave one final piece of advice to the people he cared about, it would be this: if you have not been saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, it is something he would strongly encourage you to seek. His hope was that everyone he loved would know the same peace and promise that his faith gave him.
A true fighter has laid down his battle and gone home to the Lord.
