Funeral arrangements for Mr. Louie V. Crook, Sr., 87, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church under the direction of Golden Funeral Home with Pastor Raylan Trisler officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010, at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Crook, a resident of Oak Ridge, LA, born on May 25, 1923 in Parkdale, AR, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Mr Louie Crook was the sixth of ten children born to sharecropper Marvin Estes Crook, Sr. and Mary Frances Pennington Crook. He attended school in Bonita, LA, until enlisting in Civilian Conservation Corp. at age 14 and traveling throughout the United States. He continued traveling around the world in active service to his country joining the United States Coast Guard with honorable discharge on January 26, 1944 followed immediately by an additional 4 years of service in the United States Merchant Marines. After a brief courtship, Louie V. Crook married Ernestine McKoin of McGinty, LA, on June 12, 1949.They celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 12, 2010. Mr. Crook returned and settled with his young family in Morehouse Parish where he has resided for the past 50 years. He enjoyed and participated in the sports of Boxing and Cards. Mr. Crook will always be remembered as an exciting man - an Eternal Optimist who would make your day better merely by appearing. Mr. Louie Vernon Crook, Sr., is survived by his wife, Ernestine McKoin Crook; son, Dr. Louie Vernon Crook Jr. and wife Kathy Crook; son, Dr. Daniel Estes Crook; grandson, Brad Crook and wife Marguerite Crook; granddaughters, Kristy Crook and Ashley Crook all of Oak Ridge, LA; sister Myrtis Morris of Wilmot, AR. Mr. Crook is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Estes Crook, Sr. and Mary Frances Pennington Crook; sisters, Gladys Crook Woods, Mary Lee Crook Dunnigan, Betty Jean Crook Kimbrell, Patricia Ann Crook Sims Crow; brothers, Almos Estes Crook, James Stevens Crook, Marvin Estes Crook, Jr., Billy Leon Crook and grandson, Louie Vernon Crook III (Trey). Serving as pallbearers will be Ivan Morris, Jr., Ken Kovac, Lee McKoin, Bennie Crook, Brad Crook, Herbert Thomasson, Harry Dunnigan, and James Dawson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Kovac, Jr., Cliff Wallace, and John Sherman Crow.
