Obituary of Clarence William "Bill" Porter

Funeral services for Mr. Clarence William "Bill" Porter, age 84, and a lifelong resident of Bastrop are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. William Fowler and Rev. Eddie Rhymes officiating. Interment will follow in Carter-Nicholson Cemetery. Mr. Porter was the owner and operator of C.W. Porter House Movers for 66 years. He also operated other businesses throughout the years. Mr. Porter was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. He also belonged to the Louisiana Structural Movers Association. He is survived by his wife, Billie Ruth Smith Porter; daughters, Sarah Williamson and husband Lyndol of Lafayette, LA, Betty Johnson Adams, and Emma Porter Vancoevering, both of Bastrop, LA; son, Clyde W. "Butch" Porter of Bastrop, LA; step-daughter, Pam Walker and husband Keith of Bastrop, LA; step-son, Dr. Mike Smith and wife Melissa of Bastrop, LA; brother, W.L. "Buck" Porter of Bastrop, LA; grandchildren, Jammy Porter, Leslie Book, Kimberly Williamson, April Wells, Alex Johnson, Tiffiny Johnson, Paula Brown, Jennifer DeWitt, Michelle Nichols, Josh Porter, Teri Lingefelt and Crystal Harris; great grandchildren, Jordan and Joseph Lingefelt, Harlee and Kayte Harris, Marla and Taylor Book, Ashlynn and Bryson Porter, Brandy, Jennifer and Jake Porter, Victoria Wells and Avrey Johnson. Mr. Porter is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Louise Porter; son, Leo Porter; mother, Sarah Elizabeth Porter; father, W.K. Porter; sisters, Lillie Mae Craig, Ola Lee Jones and brother, Woodrow Porter. Pallbearers will be; Joshua Porter, Rev. Bobby Porter, Jimmy Porter, Elton Odom, Tommy Emanus, Butch Hammett and Jimmy Yates. Honorary pallbearers will be; James Wiginton, William Skidmore, James Kinney and Jack Bennett. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
