Obituary of Gloy V. Burgess

Funeral services for Mrs. Gloy V. Burgess, age 92, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Victory Tabernacle Church with Rev. John E. Burgess and Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in McKnight Cemetery, Holly Ridge, LA under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Burgess, a homemaker and a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012, at Morehouse General Hospital. Mrs. Burgess was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church. She enjoyed her church, family and fishing. Mrs. Burgess is preceded in death by her husband, W. O. Burgess, Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Calhoun; three brothers, Percy, Hollis and Bob Calhoun and a great grandson, Gabe Wimbish. Mrs. Burgess is survived by one son, Cubee Burgess and wife Linda; two daughters, Gloria Bennett and husband James, Carolyn White and husband Gary; one brother, Horace J. Calhoun all of Bastrop, LA; two sisters-in-law, LoC Calhoun of Epps, LA, Patricia Calhoun of Washington; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be John Cary Tilbury, Jr., David Wimbish, Jr., Russell Wimbish, Zack Wimbish, Charlie Laseter, Jr., Perry Book, and Ashton Lang. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Carter and Michael Moore. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Carter Cox and the nurses and staff of Morehouse General Hospital.
