Funeral services for Mr. Neal Allen DeForest, Sr., age 70, of Bastrop are scheduled for 10 AM Friday, July 26, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Bastrop with Rev. Jim Ingram, Rev. Brian Mercer and Dr. L.H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. DeForest, a retired electrician from International Paper Company, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church and also served as a Deacon. Mr. DeForest was a servant of God and he enjoyed serving others. He ran the sound at First Baptist Church for 27 years. Mr. DeForest loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and also served his country in the Army National Guard. Mr. DeForest is survived by his wife of 48 years, Becky Pierce DeForest; daughter, Virginia "Ginger" DeForest Gilden and husband Flynn of New York City, NY; son, Neal Allen DeForest, Jr. and wife Dawn Graham of Ruston, LA; brother, Lynn "PeeWee" Doyle DeForest and wife Shirlene Morris of Bastrop, LA; grandchildren, Graham Allen DeForest, Cayden Ross DeForest, Aaron Mallette Gilden, Casey Pierce Gilden, Chelsea Reagan DeForest; niece, Cheri Lynn DeForest and nephew, Lynn Doyle DeForest, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Sarah Virginia Smith DeForest. Pallbearers will be Robert Shaw, Larry Fryday, Robert Sanders, Dan Turner, Dr. Carl Turpin, Jr., Dr. Glen Melton, Tommy Culp, Buddy Richards, Troy Davis, Andy Coats, Jerry Ball, Phil Morrow, and the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 6 PM - 8 PM at Golden Funeral Home.
