Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Emma Brashier Brooks, age 100, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Don Bryan and Rev. Earl Colquitt officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Nebo Cemetery (Downsville, LA). Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at Golden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brooks, a retired CNA at Morehouse General Hospital, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013. She was the oldest member of New Friendship Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and reading. She was quoted as saying her longevity was due to eating chocolate and reading her bible.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her children, Patsy Lucas and husband Buster of San Destin, FL, Billy James Brooks and wife Marilyn of San Jose, CA, twin daughters, Brenda Brooks and Linda Gregory both of Bastrop, LA; six grandchildren, Robert Lucas, Rusty Lucas, Jonette Oneto, Rodney Brooks, Chantz Bankson, Justin Bankson; eight great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Brooks; six sisters and two brothers.
Serving as pallbearers are: Robert Lucas, Rusty Lucas, Chantz Bankson, Justin Bankson, Bruce Robinson and Jack Clampit.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Carter Cox and the staff of Premier Hospice for their loving care during Mrs. Brooks's illness.
