Obituary of Sidney Keathey "Keath" Vosburg

Sidney Keathey (Keath) Vosburg Born Nov. 6, 1928 to the union of the late William Sidney and Mary Elizabeth Fulcher Vosburg and passed away August 1, 2013. Visitation will be Saturday August 3, 2013 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM with funeral services held Sunday, August 4, 2013 at 2 PM at Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Stone officiating. Internment will be at the Mer Rouge Cemetery. Keath was an active member of Reily United Methodist Church, Collinston, LA. Keath graduated from Mer Rouge High School in 1946, which included 2 years of Cadet Officer Training School from Northeast Junior College in Monroe. Keath worked many jobs in various places before graduating high school and read water meters for Peoples Water Service after graduation. When the Monsanto Chemical Company explosion occurred in Texas City that same year, Keath began working for them as a labor foreman making $1 an hour. In 1948, he began as a pipe-fitter helper with the International Paper Company in Bastrop, worked at the Texarkana Mill, and retired in 1985 as Maintenance Superintendent at the Camden Mill. Keath was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Mt. Gerzim Lodge #54, Livingston Chapter #16, Morehouse Council #50, and a life-time member of the Camden #11 Free and Accepted Mason. Keath had a passion for travel, archeology, clock maintenance & repair, and gardening. He traveled to many countries and particularly enjoyed the Holy Land and any place with ancient ruins, collecting artifacts along the way. After retiring, he began working on clocks and became the "go-to guy" for any clock repair. Keath is survived by his wife of 57 years, Monnie Pogue Vosburg, daughter Wendell Swopes and husband Floyd (Calhoun), wife's son Dennis Morris and wife Charlotte (Texarkana), daughter Kaye Mann (Crossett), daughter Kerry Baker and husband Bill (Bastrop), son Kelly Vosburg and wife Paula (Bastrop), grandchildren: Rachel Shackleford and husband Bryan (West Monroe), Christy Clark (Frisco, TX), Laura Fuentes (Ball), Shaye Sanburn (Ball), Mark Stubbs and wife Renee (Denham Springs), Chris Stephenson and wife Renee (Bastrop), Mandie Grimmett (Galveston), Nick Vosburg (Monroe), Neil Vosburg (Ruston), and a host of great and great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandchild, Ryan Vosburg, and sister, Jean Stump. Pallbearers: Jeff Shoemaker, Bryan Shackleford, Buddy Savage, Ed Justice, David Pipes and Jon Paul Carter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reily UMC, Collinston or charity of choice.
