Obituary of Ben Washam
Please share a memory of Ben to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Funeral services for Ben Washam, age 83, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Fowler and Rev. Billy Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Zachary Cemetery, Jones, LA. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-9 p.m. at Goldens.
Mr. Washam, a retired business owner and retired school bus driver, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. He was a resident of Bastrop and a life-time member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. On any day of any year, you could drive by Ben Washam's house and see him working in his yard, full of tomatoes, flowers and at least a few Rat Terrier dogs. Ben loved sharing, whether it was tomatoes, puppies or just a kind word. If you live in north Louisiana you probably have been impacted by his life.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Beale Parker, Roosevelt Parker, Jay W. Parker; and five sisters, Belle Parker, Dora Parker Franklin, Elva Washam Stapp, Inez Washam Strange, and Leona Washam Mixon.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jennisteen Crawley Washam; daughter, Bennie Jean Washam Mejias & husband John of Delhi, LA; three grandchildren, Tracie Jordan Minner & husband Greg of St. Louis, MO, Charles Dean Jordan of Bastrop, LA, Stephanie Jordan of Bastrop, LA; three great grandchildren, Isaiah Minner, Kate Minner, Jacob Minner; and very special niece, Doris Sisson of Bonita, LA.
