Obituary of Merton Reese "Pat" Bowe

Funeral services for Mr. Merton Reese "Pat" Bowe, age 80, are scheduled for 2 PM Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Dale "Bubba" Jordan officiating. Interment will follow at Bonne Idee Cemetery on Merton Bowe Rd. near Mer Rouge, LA under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM Wednesday January 15 at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Bowe passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.
Mr. Bowe was born and raised in Mer Rouge, LA, and was a life-long Methodist. "Pat" never met a stranger and was a friend to many. He retired in 1988 from Louisiana Gas Services Company after 33 1/2 years. He also retired from farming, Morehouse Gin and Elevator, and Golden Funeral Home. He was a life member of the American Legion, Scott L. Hood Post 51 in Bastrop, LA, one of the original members of the Mer Rouge Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Bastrop, LA. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War where his military assignment was Medical Airman serving with Clrco 203rd Medical Battalion, Fort Lewis, Washington.
Mr. Bowe is preceded in death by his parents, Merton John and Margaret Lee Reese Bowe; grandson, Clayton James Malone; paternal grandparents, John Woodson and James Ella Mayo Bowe; and maternal grandparents, William Hall and Minnie Kate Madison Reese.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Vergie Fay Rainwater Bowe; daughter, Margaret Faye Bowe Malone of Shreveport, LA; son Merton William Bowe and daughter-in-law Doris Bowe of Bastrop, LA; granddaughters, Denise Nicole Bowe, Sierra Dawn Bowe, and Logan Deana Bowe; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Allen Spires and Premier Hospice, especially Mary Doles, Mary Ellen Bowen, Betsy and M. J. Caldwell, Betty Newsome, and Randy Bonnett. A special thank you to Oakwoods nurses and CNAs.
Pallbearers will include Guy Buffington, Jr., David Buffington, Joe Buffington, Joe Johnson, Cliff Rainwater, and John A. Risher. Honorary pallbearers are Davie Lee Day, Gene DeWitt, Herbert Glen Thomas, and J.W. Knighten.
"He is not in Mer Rouge anymore. He can't hear the trains."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bonne Idee Cemetery, Inc. at Mer Rouge State Bank.
