Obituary of John R. Simmons

Graveside funeral services for Mr. John R. Simmons, age 88, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. Waymon Swain officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Simmons was born October 30, 1925 and passed away January 26, 2014. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a veteran of WWII where he served in Germany. He worked for 23 years in the pulp mill for International Paper Company. After leaving the mill he operated his own trucking business which he expanded to a 13 truck fleet. He was blessed with a good crew that stuck by his side for the last 10 years before retiring. Mr. Simmons is survived by his son, Larry R. Simmons and wife Carolyn; daughter, Glenda Wells; a favorite grandson, John Jeffrey Smith; sister-in-law, Cletis McAdams, whom he loved very much; and a very special friend and companion, Paula Duncan, who kept him going, may God bless you! He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Simmons; three brothers, Ray, Fred, Lenard; and two sisters, Ruth and Grace. Pop will be missed.
