Funeral services for Mr. Morton Philip Levy, Sr., 91, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Yocum officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the funeral home. Mr. Levy, a retired technical director for International Paper Company, Bastrop Kiwanis Club member and member of the Mt. Gerizim Masonic Lodge, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008 at his residence in Florida following a lengthy illness. He was born in Bardwell, TX to parents, Alexander Lexie Levy and Lucylle Greenwood Levy. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1938 he went to work for International Paper Company in Springhill, Arkansas and later transferred to Bastrop. There he met Ruby Wilson Levy, a wartime employee in the mill's lab, and they were married in 1944. They were together until her death in 2006. Mr. Levy is survived by his daughter, Lynn Levy Miller; two sons, Morton Philip Levy, Jr. and Gary Vance Edwards; grandchildren, Melana Kalil, Laura Miller, Van Edwards, Lori Edwards Pigford, Lee Edwards, Pema Levy, Shane Levy and two great grandchildren, Alexandra Edwards and Joseph Kalil. He is also preceded in death by his great grandson, Chase Edwards. Serving as pallbearers are: Winston Reed, Van Edwards, Lee Edwards, Jack Pigford, Warren Ledger and David Kalil. Honorary pallbearers are: Jeffery Sadler and Rev. Billy Stewart. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Humane Society.
