Funeral services for Nellie Cheek Dean ,87, of New Orleans, LA,formerly of Bastrop, are scheduled for 12:00 Noon Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Golden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Moffitt officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Prior to living in New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Dean served as Cafeteria Manager for Eastside School in Bastrop, LA and also served as Vice President of School Food Service of Morehouse Parish.
Mrs. Dean, while in Orleans Parish served as Manager of Warren Easton, and O. Perry Walker School Systems and served a two year term as President of Food Service of Orleans Parish and also served one year as State Secretary for Louisiana School Food Service.
Mrs. Dean served in the United States Air Force with much of her duties attached to the 4 th Air Force on the West Coast.She also was a volunteer at Meadowcrest Hospital, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, founded and served as first President of Just For Fun Club.
She is survived by two sons,Dwight D. Dean and Joseph Dean; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Basil Cheek and Billy Wayne Cheek, and one sister, Pearline Jinks.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon at Golden Funeral Home.
