Obituary of Nellie J. McKee May

Mrs. Nellie J. McKee May, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Nellie grew up in the community of Lower Dry Bayou near Wilmot, AR. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed deep sea fishing. She also loved gardening and had a green thumb with plants and flowers. Mrs. May was a retired employee of Morehouse General Hospital and attended Harmony Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby May; son, Yancy Calton May; sisters, Minnie McKee Blocker, Sally McKee Galler; brothers, Elzie Risinger, Louis McKee, Buey McKee, Wayne McKee; parents, Earl and Dolly Rogers McKee; maternal grandparents, Henry and Lucy Gilbert Rogers; and paternal grandparents, James Monroe and Willie Richardson McKee. Mrs. May is survived by her two sons, Bobby B. May of Bastrop, LA, Roger M. May of Beekman, LA; daughter-in-law, Debra May of Bastrop, LA; sisters, Alma Bordeaux of Wilmot, AR, Juanita Grice of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, April May Johnson of Bastrop, LA, Vierra Scott of Crossett, AR, Brandon Mason of Bastrop, LA, Misty May Garrison and husband Andrew of Benton, LA, Yancy May II of Shreveport, LA, Buddy "BJ" Sims of Bastrop, LA; great grandchildren, J.T. Wall, Layla Wall, Aiden Thrower, Annabelle Nelson, Micah Mason, Lilly Claire Garrison, Molly Kate Garrison; special friend, Glenn Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are Bill Galler, Fred Galler, Dennis McKee, Earl Wayne McKee, Steve McKee, Todd Bryan. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Risinger, Bernard Blocker, Jimmy Grice, Byron Bordeaux, and Ray Tyson. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will follow in Bartholomew Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.
