Obituary of Shirley Nowlin Carroll

A celebration of the life of Shirley Nowlin Carroll, age 71, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Ingram and Rev. Greg Carroll officiating under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Carroll was born April 27, 1943 in Camden, AR, the daughter of Hazel Coley Nowlin and Henry Nowlin and passed from this life on May 12, 2014. Shirley was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church where she taught a third grade Sunday School Class for many years. She then became one of the leaders of the Odom Mission for several years. She was also a retired school bus driver for Morehouse Parish Schools. Shirley endeared herself to her family, friends, and acquaintance because of her love of God and the many children that she ministered to. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel Nowlin. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted spouse of 52 years, Charles Ray Carroll; two sons, Mike and Titina of New Bern, NC, Greg and wife Gayle of Pineville, LA; four grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, William, and Laura Carroll; one great grandchild Serenity Carroll; one brother, Jimmy Nowlin and his wife Cathy; six sisters, Dorothy Duncan and husband Charles, Evelyn McKoin and husband Charles, Janice Baldwin and husband Jack, Carolyn Bahn, Chris Williamson and husband Steve, Toni Elliot and husband Mark; four "sisters", Dora Johnson, Jean Jones, Leah McCollough, and Nancy Sawyer; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family wishes to express their special thanks to caregivers Sue Eades and Terri Williams and also to Premier Hospice of Bastrop. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bastrop, LA. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
