Funeral services for Roger G. Herring, age 62, are scheduled for 10 AM Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mer Rouge Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM Friday at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Herring was self employed and told everyone that his jobs consisted of "this and that". He was a member of the Methodist faith, a Mason, and an active member in the Louisiana chapter of Hunters of Heroes. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Lou Herring; daughter, Betsy Petty and husband Tejohn of Greenbriar, AR; son, Matt Herring and wife Jessica of Bastrop, LA; sister, Linda Shaver and husband Bob; brothers, Glen Herring and wife Rose, Lee Herring and wife Mary, Ron Herring and wife Lorraine, Merle Herring and wife Janice; sister-in-law, Diane Van and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Gwyn and Abigail Petty and John Scarborough, Charlie Joe, Deuce, and Collin Herring; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Herring is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Annie Herring; brother, Ralph Herring; and mother-in-law Eleanor Stephenson. The family requests that memorials be made to Hunters for Heroes. North American Hunters for Heroes, 347 Mosley's Bluff Rd. Downsville, LA 71234, Memo-Louisiana Chapter. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Herring, Carl Herring, Willie Pierre, Chris Christmas, Pat Herring, and Tim Herring. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Christmas, Venoy Kinnaird, Zane Tubbs, Clarence Hogan, Clarance Fontenot, Bardell Bostick, Jr. Munn, David Ouelette, Charles Burns, Travis Holley, Ken Mitchell, Steve Tubbs, and Mike Tubbs.
