Obituary of Ward Wooden

Funeral services for Mr. Ward Wooden, age 92, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Wooden officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bastrop. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 - 11 a.m. at Goldens. Mr. Wooden passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 in Monroe. He was born in raised in the Ozark Mountains in Clarksville, AR. He was a retired concrete plant manager, a 32 degree Mason, and a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was a charter member of Greenacres Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 56 years. Mr. Wooden is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Irene Chapin Wooden; son, Lester Harold Wooden; grandson, Jeffrey Wooden; father, W.F. Wooden; mother, Susie Wooden; step-mother, Eula Wooden; brothers, Gora, M.L., Harlon, F.A., and Clark; sisters, Susie Johnson and Sylvia Smothers. He is survived by his son, Don Wooden & wife Martha of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Reatagae Wooden of Rayville; grandson, Harold "Hal" Wooden and wife Sherry of Los Angeles, CA; four great grandchildren; brother, Jack Wooden of Bastrop; and sister, Gertrude Defee of Bastrop. The family would like to thank Diane Bush, Vicky Fleming, and Hospice of Louisiana for their excellent care.
