Obituary of Lela "Rita" McKoin

Funeral services for Mrs. Lela "Rita" McKoin, 87, a homemaker, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Young officiating. The interment will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Golden Funeral Home. Lela Aurelia Washington McKoin, known by her family and friends as Rita, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014. Rita was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born in Baker, Louisiana in 1927. Later on in life she met and married the love of her life, Marvin McKoin. The two moved to his hometown of Jones, Louisiana where they raised their seven children. Rita loved the Lord and her family dearly. She was a well known cook and people would come from miles around just to eat her delicious home cooked meals. There was always plenty of extra room at the table for guest. Rita drove the Bonita bus for Prairie View Academy for some years and also became and expert at operating heavy equipment. She had a love for people and saw the beauty in all who was fortunate enough to meet her. Rita had a passion for gardening and antiques. With her green thumb, she grew beautiful flowers and yummy vegetables. When her family would visit, they would always leave with a token of her love, whether it was a beautiful piece of jewelry or delicious vegetables canned with her sweet love. Rita McKoin loved all of her children and family with all of her heart. She was giving and kind, and she always had a kind word, smile, and a warm hug for all. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. McKoin is survived by her husband of sixty-eight and a half years, Marvin Lee McKoin; Daughters, Jackie Young & husband George of Monroe, LA, Cindy Peralta & husband Alfred of Wilmot, AR, Bessie Reynolds & husband Kevin of Wilmot, AR; Sons, Lee McKoin of Bonita, LA, Dallas McKoin of Wilmot, AR, Steven McKoin & wife Jan of Jones, LA; Sister, Lou Booth & her daughter Janet Ryan of Daphne, AL; Nephew, Kenny Smith of Baton Rouge, La, along with numerous other nieces and nephews; twenty-five grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by daughter, Dianne McKoin; Daughter-in-law, Yvonne McKoin; Grandson, Jeffery Scott McKoin; Granddaughter, Stormi Ober. Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Johnson, Jake Johnson, Ben Johnson, Chad Grice, Jason Young, Todd Polk, Grant Rambo and Damien Moyers. The Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Grove Cemetery.
