Funeral services for Rev. Billy James Stewart, age 77, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Anger and Rev. Ronnie Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rev. Stewart was a member of Cypress Street Church of God in West Monroe. He was a retired minister and carpenter. He served in the ministry by pastoring several churches in Louisiana and Mississippi for 35 years. He was a veteran in the United States Army serving in the Korean War. Rev. Stewart was a loving husband, wonderful father and loyal friend. He loved and was very devoted to his wife, three daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Rev. Stewart is prededed in death by his parents, Charles Reedy Stewart and Nora Lee Stewart; three brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Laing Stewart; three daughters, Deborah Kilbourne and husband Don of Jackson, MS, Beverly Thompson and husband Ronnie of Chilhowie, VA, Christi Copes and husband Don of Ft. Huachuca, AZ; six grandchildren, Jamie Thompson and wife Melanie, Philip Thompson and wife Ashley, Ashley Ratcliff and husband Bill, Kaitlyn Kilbourne, Laurel Copes, Austin Copes; three great grandchildren, Carrie Thompson, Katie Thompson, and Hailey Thompson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Don Kilbourne, Don Copes, Philip Thompson, Jamie Thompson, Jerry Stewart, Gary Andrews and Dean Freeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Peyton Spears, Wandall Coody, Sherman Thompson, and Bill Ratcliff.
The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care given by Dr. Carter Cox, Best Home Health and Agape Hospice.
