Obituary of Reverend Mike Smith

Reverend Mike Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 25, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 18, 1956 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Bro. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Smith and his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Jody Smith; wife of 40 years, Melinda "Linda" Smith; his son, Scott Smith; his daughter, Angelia Hunt and her husband Kyle; brother, Gary Smith and his wife Martha; sister, Jennifer Steeger and her husband Brian LeMaire; his grandchildren, Hayley, Emily, and Charlie Jones; his niece, Holly Smith; and nephews, Jake and Luke LeMaire. Bro. Mike spent thirty-one years in the ministry. He pastored Water Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie, TX, and most recently, Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana. He was a member of the core group at First Baptist Waxahachie that started Rocket Baptist Church. He was an extremely loving son, husband, father, and brother. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed working on cars and trucks. His main love was Jesus Christ. He also loved being a pastor and spreading the word of God. He received joy from helping those in need and he always had a kind word and a giving spirit. He never complained, no matter what life brought him and we will miss his good humor, his wisdom, and the example of the Christian Walk that was his life. Family will accept visitors at Pine Grove Baptist Church on Friday, September 26, 2014, from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be at Pine Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 2 PM with Revs. Barry Joyner and Steve Barrett officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be the men of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
