Funeral services for Mr. Merle "Hardtimes" Denton, age 89, of Bastrop, LA are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Revs. David Chapman and Dale Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery (Spearsville, LA). Visitation will be held from 12 noon until service time on Sunday.
Mr. Denton, a retired employee of International Paper Company with 37 years of service and member of White Avenue Baptist Church passed away Friday, October 10, 2008 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He worked in a hospital in Germany assisting wounded American soldiers. He was also an avid hunter.
Mr. Denton is survived by his children, Eddie Denton and wife Jo Lynn of Mer Rouge, LA, Kevin Denton of Bastrop, LA, Karren Williams and husband George of Bastrop, LA; two sisters, Melba Justice of Farmerville, LA, Tiny Walker of West Monroe, LA; three grandchildren, Lt. Col. James Denton, Army Specialist Michael Denton, Melissa Pauley; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Denton, Megan Denton and Tiger Denton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Vickers Denton; two brothers, Travis and Aubrey Denton and sister, Robbie Denton.
Serving as pallbearers are: Malcolm Parker, Boyce Copeland, Robert Jackson, Bryan Stephenson, T. G. Kimball and Bill Manning.
