Obituary of Johnye Lee Slayden Armistead

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnye Lee Slayden Armistead, age 75, are scheduled for 11 AM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Dr. L. H. McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday October 27 at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Armistead, owner and operator of Slaydens BBQ of Bastrop since 1962, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014. She loved her family and was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She loved painting, playing the piano and organ, and traveling. She loved Tuesday game night with her friends. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Lynn Armistead Lowther and husband Arnie Wayne; grandchildren, William Wayne Lowther and wife Cathryn, Kelsey Lynn Lowther; one great grandchild, Cheyenne Mae Lowther. Mrs. Armistead is preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Leland Armistead; parents, Helen Randall Slayden and Joseph Daniel Slayden; brother, Dan Slayden. Serving as pallbearers will be William Lowther, Michael Bulloch, Shelby Moore, Raymond Westbrook, Tommy Wayne Philley and Terry Williams.
