Obituary of Grace Graves Moncrief

Grace Graves Moncrief passed from this earth on July 26, 2014, in Houston, Texas, where she had resided near her son Jim Moncrief and her daughter Judy Moncrief. She continued to be an inspiration to all those who knew her. Grace was born in Marion, Louisiana to Jody and Fannie Graves. In Bastrop, she remained loyal to the First United Methodist Church, where she had many cherished memories of her wonderful friends. Her other activities were, President of the Southside PTA, den leader of the Cub and Boy Scouts, The Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ladies' Circle, Sunday School teacher, and nurse at Morehouse General Hospital and Hickory Manor Nursing Home. She always helped those who needed to feel closer to Christ. She met and married the "love of her life," John Wilburn Moncrief, Jr., of Ruston, Louisiana. They celebrated fifty-one years together until his death in 1993. Their four children attended First United Methodist Church and shared their many traditions. Her favorite advice was to "count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done." Grace is preceded in death by her devoted John, and their three sons Billy, Ronnie, and Jim. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Meryl Moncrief; her daughters-in-law, Kay Hays Moncrief and Sandra Parker Moncrief; her granddaughter, Kelly Christine Moncrief; her granddaughter, Tracy Moncrief King and family; and granddaughter, Dana Moncrief Bass and family. Graveside services for Grace Graves Moncrief, and her son Jimmy Beryl Moncrief will be conducted by Reverend Henry Stone of First United Methodist Church, on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Christ Church Cemetery, in Bastrop, LA, under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
