Memorial funeral services for Mr. Bobbie Lee Howie, age 77,of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Bastrop, are scheduled for 11:30 AM Saturday, November 22, 2014 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Mollie McGee officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 AM until 11:30 AM service time.
Bobbie passed away April 1, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on September 6, 1936 in Bastrop, Louisiana to Louie Clifton and Bonnye Gifford Howie. He attended school in Bastrop and graduated from Bastrop High School in 1955. Bobbie attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana majoring in Commercial Art and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
He worked for International Paper Company and later IBM in Monroe before moving to New Orleans to work in off shore drilling. While in New Orleans, he became a certified deep sea diver and welder in the oil industry. Bobbie loved that job until an accident forced him to change directions. He also worked in Abu Dhabi, Oman, Thailand Indonesia and Singapore for several years before moving back to the states.
He loved to fly airplanes and obtained his pilot's license, flying his own plane for several years. He was also a gifted artist, something very few people knew about him.
Bobbie is survived by his daughter, Leesa Ann Howie Travis and husband William E. "Bill" Travis, Jr. of Collierville, Tennessee, two sons, Bob Steven Howie and wife Donna Ingram Howie of Lexington, South Carolina, Michael Scott Howie and wife Samantha of Sterlington, Louisiana; three grandchildren, William E. Travis III and wife Kimberly of Auburn, Alabama, Christopher Scott Howie and wife Lanie of West Monroe, Louisiana and Sarah Ann Howie of Monroe, Louisiana; one great grandson, William E. "Liam" Travis IV of Auburn, Alabama; an aunt, Jean Gifford Haygood and husband John L. Haygood of Minden, Louisiana; an uncle, Billy Joe Gifford and wife Cathy of Sepulpa, Oklahoma, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and he is preceded in death by his parents.
