Obituary of William Madison Lowery

Graveside services for William Madison "Billy" Lowery, age 76, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Beekman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Golden Funeral Home. William M. "Billy" Lowery passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe after a lengthy illness. He was a 21 year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in both Vietnam and the Korean War. He was Senior Drill Instructor at Paris Island, S.C. in 1966, and was honored with a documentary of his accomplishments which was published in the Parade Magazine entitled, "The Making of a Marine." Billy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, and especially playing his guitar and singing. He was a member of Ebenezer Full Gospel Church on Spyker Road. He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Myrna Lewis Lowery; his parents, Orum & Elsie Lowery; a brother, J.L. Lowery; a sister, Ann Roberts; his paternal grandparents, William & Ethel Lowery; and his maternal grandparents, Eben & Vira Bryan. He is survived by three sons, Clifton Lowery & wife Carolyn, Steve Lowery & wife Birkley, Ronnie Lowery & wife Lamona; eleven grandchildren, Nikki Laing & husband Josh, Scott Lowery, Ryan Lowery & wife Kelly, Trace Lowery, Kristy Matney & husband Joey, Junior Lowery, April Lowery, Anna Lowery, Madison Lowery, Grace Lowery, Carson Lowery; several great grandchildren; and three siblings, Bruce Lowery & wife Barbara, Charles Lowery & wife Rosalee, and Betty Rogers & husband Sonny. Billy will be missed by each of us that loved him so much, and the hurt is eased by the fact that he has finally found that peace of mind & heart that he so deserves. He is with our God, and we all will soon meet him there. Goodbye Billy, for now. Our love goes with you.
