Obituary of Charlie Ray

Services celebrating the life of Charlie Ray will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Golden Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Chad Ballard. Interment will follow at Mt. Patrick Cemetery, Bernice, LA. The family will receive other family members and friends at Golden Funeral Home Saturday January 21, 2006 beginning at 10 A.M. until service time. Mr. Ray passed away January 17, 2006 in Bastrop, Louisiana. He was born July 9, 1911 in Union Parish, Louisiana to William Perry and Annie Jordan Ray. He was a charter member of Marrable Hill Chapel Church, El Dorado, Arkansas. Mr. Ray, his wife and two daughters moved to Bastrop in 1951. He has been an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church fifty plus years. Mr. Ray was honored by Green Acres Baptist for being an ordained deacon for fifty plus years. He retired as an automotive machinist from Bastrop Motor Supply. Shortly after his retirement he became a school cross walk guard at the Morehouse Jr. High School. He served on the board of Morehouse Council on Aging. Mr. Ray could be seen each morning in taking his daily two mile walk until his health no longer permitted. Above all else his life was devoted to God and his family. He was a very dear Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and most of all a loving husband. He was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Margie Ray of sixty-eight years. Mrs. Ray passed away August 24, 2005. Also preceding Mr. Ray in death are his parents, four sisters: Ionie Austin, Nancy Bell McIntosh, Vera Bennett and Frances Nolan; two brothers: Wess Elloiot Ray and Edgar "Doc" Ray. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Christine Jennings and husband Billy of Cotton Valley, LA and Margene Watters and husband Larche of Benton. LA, one grandson David Watters of Benton, LA, four granddaughters, Cynthia Johnston and husband Roy D. of Ivan, LA, Sandra Delafield of Sarepta, LA, Ronda Taylor and husband Kevin of Springhill, LA, and Dianne Blake and husband Robert of Springhill, LA, two great granddaughters Stephanie Johnston, Ivan, LA and Brittany Taylor, Springhill, LA; six great grandsons Nick Johnston, Dallas, TX, Justin Holloway and wife Kristy of Haughton, LA, Jon Holloway and Matthew Taylor of Springhill, LA, Christopher and Mitchell Delafield of Sarepta, LA; brother, W.P. Ray,Jr. and wife Marjorie of Shreveport, LA and his loving caregivers: Caren Walker, Sheila Coburn and Elaine Johnson. Pallbearers will be his grandson, great-grandsons and Lavelle Vining. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Green Acres Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Mahmoud Khalil, M.D. and the Emergency Room staff of Morehouse General Hospital.
