Obituary of Mary Virginia Bass Tubbs

Funeral services for Mary Virginia Bass Tubbs, age 69, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday January 22, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Bastrop with Rev. Jim Ingram and Rev. L.H. McCollough officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Tubbs, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Thursday January 19, 2006 at Morehouse General Hospital. She graduated from Mangham High School in 1955. In 1958 she graduated from Northeast University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught school in the Morehouse Parish School System for 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop and was a past president of Kappa Kappa Iota. She is preceded in death by her parents, D.T. & Emma Hagar. She is survived by her husband, Floyd M. Tubbs; daughter, Beverly Witherington & husband Hollis of Benton; son, David E. Bass & wife Karen of Bastrop; sister, Jerry Lou Free of Calhoun; brother, Doyle Terry Hagar of Monroe; sister-in-law, Carolyn Roberts & husband Skeeter of Fairbanks; six grandchildren, Jamie Bass of Ruston, Houston Bass of Bastrop, Mary Katherine Witherington of Benton, Anna Claire Witherington of Benton, Noah Brown of Bastrop, and Dylan Brown of Bastrop. Pallbearers will be Rodney Free, Nathan Free, Michael Tubbs, Billy Tubbs, Mark Tubbs and George Winnon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Coed Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund of First Baptist Church in Bastrop.
