Obituary of Avis Marie Bates Daniel

Funeral services for Avis Marie Bates Daniel, age 87, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday January 24, 2006 at Cherry Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Cal Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Golden Funeral Home Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. Mrs. Daniel, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Saturday January 21, 2006 at St. Francis North Hospital. She was a retired school teacher and coach. She was named teacher of the year at Westside Math Lab and retired from Cherry Ridge Christian School. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota. Mrs. Daniel was a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School and was in the choir. She is preceded in death by husband, Leslie Thad Bates; parents, Ed & Hattie High; and nine brothers & sisters. She is survived by her husband, Roy Daniel; daughter, Sue Bates Lyles & husband Don of Pharr, TX; son, Eugene Bates & wife Brenda of Roswell, GA; step-daughters, Judy Smith & husband Bob of Senatobia, MS, Aletta Stull & husband Terry of Senatobia, MS; step-son, Curtis Daniel & wife Donice of Forest City, AR; sister, Addie Daniel of Bastrop; brother, Horace High of Bastrop; four grandchildren, Kregg Roy of West Monroe, Brent Roy of Calhoun, Todd Bates of Alpharetta, GA, Bryan Bates & wife Yvonne of Atlanta, GA; five great grandchildren, David Roy, Eric Roy, Christa-Marie Roy, all of West Monroe, Ashley Bates, Kaitlyn Bates, both of Canton, GA; five step-grandchildren, eleven step-great grandchildren; three step-great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Catherine High of Hamburg, AR, son-in-law, Charles Roy of Calhoun; and numerous nieces & nephews. Pallbearers will be Johnny Lee Moreland, Lawrence Nugent, Terry Stull, Bob Smith, Glenn Daniel, and Billy Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Lyon, Dr. Russ Greer, Chipper West, and members of Avis & Roy's bowling team.
