Funeral services for George Brown Edgemon, age 83, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Ten Mile Baptist Church, Ten Mile, TN, with Rev. Shane Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Edgemon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will also be held Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home, Bastrop, LA.
Mr. Edgemon, a resident of Mer Rouge, LA, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, TX. He was a life-long farmer, cotton ginner, and built cotton gins in several southern states. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a paratrooper. He was a member of the American Legion for 63 years, and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #51 in Bastrop, LA. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Sons of the Revolution. He was an avid gardner and loved to fish.
Mr. Edgemon is preceded in death by his father, Kimball Edgemon; mother, Clara Brown Edgemon; two brothers, Cyrus Reuben Edgemon, Kimball Edgemon, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Edgemon Senatore; and son, George Rickey Edgemon.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheri Edgemon Young & husband Eugene of Sunset, LA, Angela Edgemon Thrash & husband Keith of Kilgore, TX; three sisters, Clara Belle Pickle of Ten Mile, TN, Alice Chapman of Ten Mile, TN, Vivian Gail Pelham of Whitney, TX; three grandchildren, Colby Brown Rabatin & wife Sarah, Hartwell Shane Young & wife Amanda, Shanari Young; five great grandchildren, Landon Allen Rabatin, Logan Young, Kinslee Young, Morgan Taylor, Lee Scott Taylor; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
