Obituary of Eugene Franklin Wise

Funeral services for Eugene Franklin "Gene" Wise, age 88, of Bastrop are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday January 22, 2009 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Wise passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Lagniappe Healthcare in Bastrop. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, a retired employee of International Paper Company with 27 years of service, a Master Sergeant in the United States Army serving in World War II and Korea, and a faithful Sunday School teacher for 43 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and first wife of 57 years, Verdee Wise. Mr. Wise is survived by his wife of 13 years, Christine McLean Wise; two daughters, Sheila Ruffin and husband Hurshel of Bastrop, LA, Susan Barringer and husband Mike of Monroe, LA; three grandchildren, Amber Welch, Brooke Barringer, Joshua Barringer; two great grandchildren, Jordan Hemphill, Jase Welch; three step children, Barbara Moore and husband James of Shreveport, LA, Marsha McIntyre and husband Kary of Bastrop, LA, Edwin McLean and wife Elise of Chapel Hill, NC; five step grandchildren, Alan McIntyre and wife Dorla, Kim Johnston, Michael McIntyre and wife Renee, Len Verrett and wife Jana, Sophia Szentes; seven step great grandchildren, Eric McIntyre, Jason McIntyre, Robert Verrett, Christopher Verrett, Alex McIntyre, Connor McIntyre, and Christian Johnston. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at Golden Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
