Obituary of George C. Bowe

Funeral services for George C. "Buddy" Bowe are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday January 29, 2009, at Mer Rouge Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Emanuel officiating. Interment will follow at the Bonne Idee Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Bowe, a resident of Mer Rouge and a retired International Paper Company employee, passed away Tuesday January 27, 2009 at St. Francis North Hospital. He was a member of Mer Rouge Methodist Church. Mr. Bowe was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to garden.
Mr. Bowe was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He entered the Navy in 1943 and trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Chicago, IL. He served overseas at Leyte, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Pearl Harbor, Panama, and Okinawa. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the APC, the Philippine Liberation Medal, a Presidential Citation Award, and a Victory Bar for his service to America. He was discharged in 1946.
Mr. Bowe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Bowe; four children, Cecilia Bingham and husband Jimmy of Calhoun, LA, George C. Bowe, Jr. and wife Jean of Garland, TX, James David Bowe and wife Cyndi of Mer Rouge, LA, Steve Bowe and wife Julie of Prairieville, LA; two sisters, Lorine Clack, Mary Ruth Eckles, both of Mer Rouge; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, James David Bowe, Jr.; father, George Bowe; mother, Emma Bowe; and step-mother, Rosa Bowe.
Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Harris, William Hayden, Buddy Blackwell, Johnny Risher, Bill King, and Craig Moss.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mer Rouge Methodist Church.
